Sutton celebrate Top Club trophy
Sutton Swimming Club are celebrating winning the Top Club Trophy at the 2013 Nottingham Northern Open Meet at the Beechdale pool in Nottingham.
Some 32 swimmers represented the club and could compete in up to five events with 50m races for all four individual strokes and then a 100m individual medley event.
From each of the 50m races, the top six swimmers in the heats from each individual age group were selected to compete in a final with trophies awarded to all six finalists.
There were no finals for the individual medley events, so trophies were presented to the top six in each age group from the heats.
With all 32 swimmers for Sutton SC achieving success, the personal best times swum on the day alone will keep the club’s web page administrator busy for quite a while once the official results are published.
Some of the younger and inexperienced swimmers, many of whom were competing for the club for the very first time did extremely well with some knocking big chunks of time off their previous personal bests.
However, special mention should however go to Mia Fergie (11) who finished first in all five of her events, scoring the maximum of 30 team points, which ensured that Mia finished as joint top overall girl.
Many of the club’s other swimmers reached finals or received trophies for finishing in the top six in the medley races. It was these results that give the club points to determine where they finished overall.
With some 16 clubs competing from all over Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and including a large entry from the Satellite Club, who are based near Macclesfield, Cheshire, it was Sutton who came out with the most points to win the overall Top Club Trophy in the end.
This trophy was presented to some of the team members that had remained poolside until after the final event.
Following receipt of the trophy Sutton SC swimmers once more took to the pool to celebrate their much deserved victory.
Two Sutton swimmers, Chloe Peach (13) and Sophie Bunker (13) have both gained a well deserved place on the elite Nottinghamshire Nova Centurion Swimming Club.
Both Sophie and Chloe attended a trial with the Mansfield-based Nova B Squad at the Rebecca Adlington Pool.
Their trials went well and both were recently notified they had secured much sought after places on the squad. They will start training with Nova from September.
Sophie and Chloe were never part of the Nova Development Squad and so to secure places on the B squad they have had to work extremely hard in their training sessions with Sutton SC in order to reach the standards required on the Nova B squad.
Sutton head coach Gren Greaves was delighted they had been rewarded for their efforts and is confident that, with the additional Nova pool time, that both swimmers will continue to progress rapidly.
Another Sutton SC swimmer, Flora Lai (9), recently started training on the Mansfield Nova Development squad, having secured her place by finishing highly in the County Championships in March.
